Week in Review

24 Sep

Hey, y’all!  So sorry I’ve been MIA from the blog this week!  And honestly, I don’t even have a good excuse since I haven’t been doing anything overly exciting!  Ha!  In my defense, though, I will say that it’s taken me forever (as in not even resembling normal until about yesterday!) to get over whatever stomach bug I picked up a few weeks ago, so I’ve been a little out of sorts trying to work around it!  *Sigh…*  Knock on wood, but I think I’m officially on the mend now!

The BEST part of this week has definitely been the weather.  I kid you not that we had 5 straight days (yep, count ’em, FIVE!) of sunny, borderline warm (65ish) weather!  WOOHOO!  Needless to say, the pups and I (and John after work!) have taken full advantage- lots of long walks, lots of bike riding, lots of dining on the porch.  Ahhh…*Smiles ear to ear*

Even Dulcie's Ducks (she LOVES birds...all kinds of them!) have been basking in the awesome weather! We take bread daily 🙂

There are the best trails here...

My boys, feeding the ducks...

Let’s see…What else did we do this week.  Well, even though it’s not obvious here, I actually got alot of writing done for my magazine gig.  There’s something so much more inspiring about setting up with the laptop in the sun- out on the porch or under a tree in the park- rather than cooped up inside with freezing rain falling on the windowsill!  So if you still haven’t checked out Lowcountry Dog, do it!  Even if you’re not in Charleston, I promise that all you dog-lovers will learn be entertained and educated!

We also got to meet our friends’, Mike and Kristen, new addition, Caleb Andrew.  SO precious, and less than 2 weeks old!

Mommy, Daddy and baby are all doing well 🙂

Oh, and I almost forgot- we celebrated a holiday yesterday!  Shame on those of you who didn’t realize that Thursday was National Women’s Road Warriors Day! Ha!  And since my stomach was finally feeling a smidge better, we decided to spice things up…With sausage and cake! 🙂  John donned his grill hat…

Yep, even braided sausages! And surprisingly, the white ones are veal...

and I baked Earline’s FAMOUS Strawberry Cake from scratch!  Words can’t describe the deliciousness here, folks!  If you’re a cake junkie like me (and junkie is such an understatement!), you’ve GOT to try this cake.  Christina O., here’s lookin’ at you, kid!  Best part?  With a few simple tweaks, my version is uber-healthy!  A full pound of fresh strawberries, lowfat cream cheese, applesauce instead of oil…Yes, please! 🙂

Of course we had to decorate it for the holiday! We even paired it with German Blackberry wine...Mmmm...

So that’s about it for this week…See, I told you, nothing too exciting, just good, quality family time :).  And speaking of family, MY PARENTS GOT HERE THIS MORNING!  *Bazinga!*  I’ve gotta tell ya, it’s better than Christmas around here right now!  So for the next 11 days, we’re going to be living it up as Thomas, Party of 6!  Paris, Venice and Grindelwald (Switzerland)…here we come!

Let's talk about it!
