This time last year…

21 Jul

Can you believe that this time last year we were packing our bags getting ready to head across the big pond for our German adventure?! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, doesn’t it?  It’s really amazing just how much can happen in a measly 12 months…

Well, before I get to all the good stuff- and believe me, you won’t want to miss this!- I suppose I need to address the cliffhanger I’ve been leaving you with in my last few posts…a new business venture.  *Sigh*  Long story short…It’s not happening, at least not right now. And frankly, it sucks, but we have no choice but to think that God had a different plan for us for this time in our lives.  That old saying, ‘When one door closes, another one opens,’ definitely comes to mind…

Speaking of doors opening, that brings me to the good stuff!  We’re so excited to share with all of you that, once 2012 rolls around, we’ll officially need to update the name of our blog to Thomas, Party of 5!  That’s right, folks…WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!

Baby T embarking on the 2nd trimester 🙂

This weekend marks the end of our first trimester, so we’re feeling quite the weight lifted and reality is finally setting in!  Thankfully, after all the horror stories I’d heard about those first few months, I’m pleased to report that mine definitely could’ve been much worse!  I’ve had a good bit of nausea and plenty of food aversions…I get tired easily, but I’m doing my best to stay rested and to give my body what it needs which, at the moment, is nothing but good ‘ol childhood comfort foods like mac-n-cheese and grilled sandwiches!  I will say, though, that that’s something often easier said than done for me.  Y’all know how fanatic I am about fitness and healthy, clean eating…Well, let’s just say that alot of that goes out the window when you’re growing a human in there!  My biggest challenge so far has definitely been body image and learning to accept- and hopefully one of these days EMBRACE- the physical changes that are happening- and boy do they happen quickly…We shall see :).  On the plus side, I’m still working out most mornings, though I’ve replaced evening runs with 3 mile walks with my mom, whose been a real trooper for signing up to do this with me 5 times a week!  Our goal is to continue the regiment until the day before I deliver!  Again, we shall see… 🙂

Speaking of the grandparents, yes, they’re all ecstatic.  Me being an only child, I’m sure my parents- and my grandmother- were starting to wonder whether they’d ever have a grandchild!  You should’ve seen the looks on their faces when they heard the news! My mom’s first thought was that we were getting another dog- ha!  We had to be a little bit more stealth in telling John’s family as they’re all the way in northern Kentucky and we wanted to tell them in person.  So, we planned a ‘Father’s Day in Gatlinburg’ weekend and got the whole family there under the pretense of ‘how great would it be to all spend the holiday together in the Smokies?!’  Needless to say, they were surprised…and so excited!

Thomas Family Breakfast in Gatlinburg the morning after we shared our big news. We were almost 8 weeks here 🙂

Well, I think that’s about enough info for one post, don’t you think?  We’re headed with my folks to one of our all-time favorite cities, Myrtle Beach, for the weekend to celebrate the start of this next phase of pregnancy.  You know us, always a reason to celebrate! 🙂 No, but seriously…this process is DEFINITELY proving to be a learning experience so far and is likely to only get more ‘educational’ with each passing day, so I really do think it’s important to celebrate the little milestones along the way!  So what’s next?  Well, John will graduate with his masters degree in less than 3 weeks, so that’s TOTALLY AWESOME!!  Then he has alot of work-related travel coming up this fall, so there’s bound to be some good posts as we head out to Hawaii again in September and to Italy in October.  And don’t worry, in the meantime, I plan to keep you all posted right here on all things Baby T!  And just so you know, we hope to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl at the end of August so stay tuned!  Can’t wait!
